Words We Learned
Ramps, Pendulums, Rockets!
This week engineers explored how ramps in our school make things move. We came up with our own question and figured out with a team how to design a ramp to test our wonderings. We had a lot of fun! They explored with slope, ramps, speed, weight and gravity! Scientists also studied balloon rockets and how more air makes them move further. We have LOVED learning about motion! We can’t wait to share our learning with you at Showcase!
We studied some famous artists and even got some inspiration for our own art pieces! Our Arts Partnership Teaching Artist, Ms. Kathy, worked with us two times this week! In our first session we looked at some art that Da Vinci created and used it as an inspiration to draw on plexi glass and then used push and pull with paint! In our second session we studied the work of Keith Haring and read a book titled “The Boy Who Just Kept Drawing”. We discovered that Haring really used a lot of motion in his art which then gave us the inspiration for our masterpieces! You will be amazed at what these artists have created! All art will be on display at Showcase on May 2! We ask that this event be adult only (no siblings) so your kindergartner can be the star of the evening!
Wrapping Up How To Books
This week we learned more about how to books. We added in warnings, suggestions and tips to make our writing even better! Some of us even turned some of our books into chapter books! For example- How To Play at the Park and we might have chapters titled How To Go Down A Slide, How To Swing, and How To Go Down The Pole! Next Thursday we will have our Author’s Celebration! This Author’s Celebration will be a smaller event and only involve kindergartners! We encourage all author’s to dress fancy and in whatever makes them feel their very best and proudest!
Parent Teacher Conferences
We are really looking forward to meeting with you on Wednesday and sharing your childs’ progress! These kindergartners have made incredible gains this year: academically, socially, and in their level of maturity!
During morning meetings we have been focusing on relationships with our friends. The kids have learned what a good friend looks like and who we want to be as friends! The kindergartners were given the task of interviewing a friend within the classroom. We matched them up with a partner who they may not know very well so they could get to know someone new! Each partner interviewed each other and then synthesized the info and wrote a few sentences that they found most important about their partner!
